Why you need a creative break

I want to talk to you about why you need a creative break. On the 21st of March it was the first day of Spring in the UK, and also my birthday. I used to have terrible birthdays in the past. I decided to give myself my birth day off when ever that was possible.

Having 24 hours that were blissfully all mine to do what ever I wanted with changed everything.

Birthday girl
Yes this really is me!

I want to give you a gift from me, to take a creative break. This isn’t as dramatic as it sounds. (I certainly don’t want you to stop creating your wonderful work!) I want you to take 24 hours sometime this week to give yourself a chance to try a new way of creating.

If you are a writer, try painting, if you make music try silversmithing, etc. You get the picture. It is only by taking ourselves out of our usual creative space that we can look back at our own work with fresh eyes.

When the world seems to be working on hyperdrive, it can feel like we are meant to be working 24-7. As creatives it is so important that we make time to be creative and not end up with burn out.

Taking those moments to people watch, or draw our thoughts out onto a blank page, is as important as creating a new body of work or doing your accounts (yes I know how much we hate the account word!)

This week’s podcast takes a different approach to the others that I have shared with you. It was recorded on my birthday so I wanted to give you a birthday gift as well. Who doesn’t like a present eh?

I explain more about what I want to gift to you in the podcast
which you can listen to here: CLICK

I’d love to hear how you get on with your creative break and whether you have any insights or inspiration. Do let me know in the comments below how you get on.

If you want to catch up on some of the old podcasts you can check out the resources page on the website, where I have posted them all for you to download and listen to in your own time.

Have a wonderful Spring filled week ahead and I look forward to hearing about your creative projects.
